Artist Talk

I was learning art since I was a kid. However the official art class began when I was early 20. I lived in North Borneo working as a teacher in a small town name “Tawau” which is very isolated from big city life. Surrounding the area only ocean and jungle. In my free time I began my Chinese art course from a master for an out campus courses provided by a collage in Malaysia – Malaysia Institute of Art. With the geographical advantage, I dived in the ocean nearby often. One of the famous island is name “ Sipadan Island”; It was inspire me to do the ocean art by today.

When I was in US, I learned art with a few masters. One of my mentors is from New Hope and the other one is from New York who do the sculpture. Beside of that, I join to Dover art league and also join for the figurative artists group in University Of Delaware sometime. I also traveled everywhere to learn the difference art in the world including the skill and the culture. I was in Australia, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, and others area. I could do Chinese traditional art, Sumi-e, Batik, Lacquer art, Water color, Acrylic, and Oil Painting. I use to attend work shop and also provide work shop when I traveled. However I am focus in Oil painting the most and I also impress by batik art which could let artist to express themselves tremendously.

Most of my art has their theme and the series. Due to the fate that I am a diver, I am using Ocean and ocean life as my theme. I have a lot of difference series art that I did from before until today. For example, “Chasing the light series” It could be a lot for me to look for light in life. I was confusing which direction I have to go? “Dad’s Kissing Fish” : I love my dad and mom, so this is honor to him and her as my gift, they were the one who support me in my art life. My dad was the one who give me the inspiration to do this series of art. “Forever Infinity” It means about the doubt of life about the forever infinity for love. I am thinking that most of the people will have the similar opinion as mine. So It is obviously most of the arts are reflected my life, my culture and also who am I as a person.

I had grown up in a Taoism family. My original country is multiracial. We have Chinese, Malay and India in a small country. I could easily learn difference religion which will influence our principle in life. I belief that I am very much influence by new age philosophy due to this reason. I would like to present my art with more relaxing and feeling of universal or globalization.

When I begin to compose my own art, I will seriously concern the few elements which I wish to achieve. I like my art to have the movement feeling when someone looking at it. I would like to have the depth and light which concerned by most artists. Beside of that I like to have the striking color which I belief is influence by fauvism artists. I also like to have the 3 D effect like computer art which bring me to the new century. The last things I like to do is, it should not something people could see in real life like a photo, It should be in the dream world only, or more into surreal. When think on those elements that I need to refer, it given me a lot of excitement to compose and create my new pieces of art.

In real life, I am a woman who loves nature. Just like you neighbor, or your friend’s girl friend or wife, or maybe just like you. I hope with my art I could remind everyone that we are living in a gift world; the wonderful world. We should always love and appreciate the world as it is.
